Francisco Liriano held the Cardinals hitless into the sixth and finished with 8 innings of 3 hit, 1 run ball. He would get a no decision as the Pirates lost 2-1 in 11.

Andrelton Simmons got on base 4 times, including a triple, driving in a run and scoring two but his Braves lost 8-4 to Cincinnati.

Wade Miley pitched 7 innings allowing only 3 runs and walked none, finally giving the Red Sox a solid outing. But he was a hard luck 4-2 loser to the Yankees.

Nelson Cruz went 3 for 4 with two homers in Seattle’s 11-4 loss to red hot Houston.
